Job Summary

The Director of Clinical Research Operations defines the clinical research strategy for the Georgia Cancer Center at Augusta University, aligning operations with the organization’s strategy, vision, and mission. The Director ensures the clinical research infrastructure provides efficient, compliant, and customer service–oriented support to the research community. The Director leads development of unified policies, procedures, and education for investigators and staff, and oversees central and local clinical research activities to ensure compliance with applicable laws and policies.

Responsibilities
  • Strategic Planning — Direct overall strategic direction of research operations to establish best-in-class clinical research infrastructure and operations. Support institutional and business development, promote customer service, define goals and metrics, and collaborate with departments to enhance research operations.
  • Professional Development — Oversee staff performance, mentorship, competency frameworks, quality standards, and staff recruitment/onboarding. Coordinate training and education for the clinical research community; liaise with Human Resources on staff issues.
  • Operations — Provide fiscal management oversight across research activities; enforce policies and procedures; maximize IT system efficiencies; serve as an expert resource on research processes; ensure regulatory compliance; coordinate with investigators to deliver timely, high-quality service; hold staff accountable for internal controls and policy compliance.
  • Process Improvement and Quality Assurance — Lead efficient processes for research activities, align policies with technology systems, oversee QA activities, measure data for continuous improvement, and develop/update SOPs for trials. Represent GCC on institutional committees and liaise to advance clinical trial interests.
  • Other — Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Educational Requirements — Advanced degree from an accredited college or university in a related discipline (MHA, MBA, MSN).
  • Required Experience — Ten years of progressive management experience in clinical research operations.
  • Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities — Demonstrated organization, leadership, and management skills; strategic thinking; effective interpersonal and communication skills; ability to lead in a complex environment; experience working with faculty and administration; strong problem-solving and financial/compliance acumen.
Shift, Salary, and Benefits

Shift: Days/Mon-Fri (exempt position; some after-hours work may be required).
Salary Minimum: $125,900 annually; pay commensurate with qualifications within the established range. Benefits available to full-time employees, including health insurance, retirement plans, vacation, sick leave, and holidays. Tuition assistance may be available after six months of employment.
