Position Summary

The Clinical Research Nurse Supervisor serves as the clinical and operational leader for the Cardiology Research Program, overseeing research coordinators and support staff in the conduct of cardiology clinical trials. This role is responsible for ensuring studies are executed efficiently, enrollment goals are achieved, data quality standards are maintained, and all activities comply with protocol requirements, GCP, FDA regulations, and institutional policies. In partnership with investigators, sponsors, and the Regulatory Manager, the supervisor provides oversight of protocol implementation, participant safety, staff performance, study operations, and audit readiness while supporting the successful delivery of the research portfolio.

Job Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day operations of cardiology clinical research studies, ensuring efficient execution, protocol adherence, and achievement of study objectives.


• Serve as the clinical research and cardiology subject matter expert for protocol implementation, participant safety, and study procedures.


• Collaborate with investigators, sponsors, regulatory staff, and leadership to support successful study startup, conduct, and closeout.


• Ensure compliance with study protocols, GCP, FDA regulations, institutional policies, human subject protections, and nursing practice standards.


• Supervise research coordinators and support staff, establishing performance expectations, accountability measures, and professional development plans.


• Recruit, onboard, train, mentor, and evaluate staff while ensuring appropriate workload distribution and study coverage.


• Monitor coordinator performance and completion of participant screening, enrollment, study visits, documentation, data entry, and follow-up activities.


• Develop and implement recruitment and retention strategies to achieve enrollment goals and address barriers to participant accrual.


• Partner with investigators and clinical teams to identify eligible participants and support informed consent and retention efforts.


• Oversee the collection, documentation, and management of research data, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely query resolution.


• Conduct quality reviews and monitor key performance indicators related to enrollment, protocol compliance, data quality, and study milestones.


• Provide clinical oversight for participant eligibility, safety events, adverse event management, investigational devices, and cardiac procedure studies.


• Maintain continuous audit readiness by overseeing study documentation, monitoring visits, audits, inspections, and corrective actions.


• Partner with the Regulatory Manager to monitor compliance metrics, address deficiencies, and support SOP, quality improvement, and CAPA initiatives.


• Coordinate research operations across cardiology services and ancillary departments while identifying and implementing process improvements.

Education

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.


• Master's degree in Nursing, Clinical Research, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred.

Experience

• Minimum 5 years of clinical research experience, including experience coordinating and conducting clinical trials.


• Minimum 3 years of clinical cardiology nursing experience.


• Minimum 2 years of supervisory, leadership, or team management experience.


• Experience with clinical trial operations, regulatory compliance, data management, and sponsor interactions.


• Experience preparing for and participating in monitoring visits, audits, and regulatory inspections.


• Experience with industry-sponsored, investigator-initiated, and federally funded clinical research preferred


• Experience using OnCore, REDCap, Epic, and electronic data capture systems preferred.


• Experience with quality assurance, audit readiness, and process improvement initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Advanced knowledge of cardiovascular disease processes and clinical cardiology practice.


• Strong understanding of FDA regulations, ICH-GCP guidelines, OHRP requirements, and human subject protections.


• Comprehensive knowledge of clinical trial operations, regulatory submissions, and study management.


• Proven ability to manage research staff and promote accountability.


• Ability to evaluate coordinator performance and ensure completion of critical study responsibilities.


• Strong leadership, communication, coaching, and conflict resolution skills.


• Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple studies and competing deadlines.


• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.


• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with investigators, sponsors, and interdisciplinary teams.

Licenses and Certifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State required.


• SOCRA or ACRP certification preferred.
