The Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine is seeking applicants for a Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) position, at various skill levels, to join our growing team of research professionals. This position is open to applicants who meet the requirements for Clinical Research Coordinator 1, 2, or 3. It is ideal for individuals with healthcare experience, clinical research experience, or those interested in beginning a career in clinical research.
The Emergency Medicine Research Office (EMRO) manages a research portfolio that includes investigational drug trials, device trials, and observational studies. It conducts federally funded and investigator-initiated trials across various medical areas including cardiovascular disease, pulmonary and infectious diseases, status epilepticus, motor vehicle crash injury, head injury, and gastrointestinal illnesses. Candidates must have strong organizational skills, excellent communication skills, and the ability to learn quickly.
EMRO collaborates with study investigators both inside and outside the Emergency Department, providing opportunities to work with data and personnel across the Emergency Department, ICUs, acute care floors, and outpatient clinics. The role involves working closely with physicians, nurses, research staff, and study subjects.
Shifts may vary to meet study procedures within specific timeframes. Candidates should have knowledge of medical terminology, excellent interpersonal skills, and be adaptable and resourceful. Some studies require biospecimen collection, processing, and shipment; experience with phlebotomy or laboratory work is highly valued.

Clinical Research Coordinator 1, Non-Licensed:
Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent.
Experience: None required; healthcare or medical terminology knowledge preferred.
Clinical Research Coordinator 1, Licensed:
Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent; Nursing Diploma may substitute.
Experience: None required; licensure in a clinical profession (e.g., RN, Athletic Trainer) is required.
Clinical Research Coordinator 2, Non-Licensed:
Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent.
Experience: At least one year in clinical research; healthcare or medical terminology knowledge preferred.
Clinical Research Coordinator 2, Licensed:
Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent; Nursing Diploma may substitute.
Experience: At least one year in clinical research; licensure required.
Clinical Research Coordinator 3, Non-Licensed:
Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years in clinical research; Master's degree may substitute for one year.
Clinical Research Coordinator 3, Licensed:
Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent; Nursing Diploma may substitute.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years in clinical research; licensure required.
Additional levels (4) require more extensive experience and responsibilities, including licensure and certifications.
This role involves extensive computer work, patient interaction, and movement within UVA medical facilities, with occasional travel to other UVA clinics and events.
