Job description

Overview

The UVA Brain Institute is seeking Clinical Research Coordinators (CRCs) for levels 1, 2, and 3, both licensed and non‑licensed, to support investigator‑initiated and federally funded research across multiple neuroscience‑related disciplines.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with Principal Investigators and other study team members on all assigned clinical research projects.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of regulatory frameworks for FDA and non‑FDA regulated studies.
  • Facilitate and complete study start‑up activities, including regulatory submissions and site initiation requirements.
  • Coordinate multiple clinical trials or research projects simultaneously.
  • Manage ongoing trial conduct from enrollment to follow‑up visits, including data management, safety reporting, and compliance oversight.
  • Prepare and submit regulatory documentation to the IRB (e.g., personnel changes, annual protocol continuations, protocol modifications, adverse event reports, unanticipated events).
  • Demonstrate proficiency with electronic platforms used in clinical research (IRB Pro, Protocol Builder, CRConnect, OnCore, e‑regulatory platforms, and Epic).
Minimum Requirements (Non‑Licensed)
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or certifications.
  • Experience: None required. Prior experience in a healthcare setting and/or knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
Minimum Requirements (Non‑Licensed – CRC 2)
  • At least one year of clinical research experience. Healthcare experience and / or medical terminology knowledge preferred.
Minimum Requirements (Non‑Licensed – CRC 3)
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical research experience required. Master’s degree may substitute for 1 year of experience.
  • Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC) and/or Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) preferred at the time of hire and required within one year.
Minimum Requirements (Licensed)
  • Must be licensed to practice in a clinical profession (e.g., Registered Nurse, Athletic Trainer, Pharmacology, Medical Technology, Physical Therapy, Registered Respiratory Therapy).
  • Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or certifications. Nursing diploma may substitute for a degree for licensed Registered Nurses.
  • None, one year, or minimum of 3 years of clinical research experience required for CRC 1, 2, and 3 respectively, with degree substitutions as noted above.
  • Clincial Research Coordinator (CCRC) and/or Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) required within one year of hire.
Salary Range
  • Non‑Licensed CRC 1: $25–27 hourly (non‑exempt)
  • Non‑Licensed CRC 2: $58,000–68,000 annually (exempt)
  • Non‑Licensed CRC 3: $66,000–78,000 annually (exempt)
  • Licensed CRC 1: $28–34 hourly (non‑exempt)
  • Licensed CRC 2: $70,000–80,000 annually (exempt)
  • Licensed CRC 3: $76,000–88,000 annually (exempt)
Physical Demands

This is primarily a sedentary role that requires extensive use of a desktop computer. Occasional travel is required to attend meetings and attend selected programs.

Location

This position is based in Charlottesville, VA, and must be performed fully on‑site.
