Job description

The Clinical Research Associate (CRA) is a hands-on research professional who helps bring non-invasive EEG-based clinical and research studies to life—from study start-up and participant visits through data quality review and closeout. This is an opportunity to work across a diverse portfolio of projects focused on cognitive health, brain function, and integrative human performance, while developing deep expertise in ABM’s proprietary EEG hardware and software.

The ideal candidate combines practical EEG experience with curiosity, strong interpersonal skills, and a hands-on problem-solving mindset. Experience with sleep EEG or sleep-wake studies is especially valuable as ABM expands its work in integrative sleep and cognitive health research. You will interact directly with research participants, support and train study technicians, troubleshoot technology in the field, and serve as an important link between study execution, data quality, and product quality.

This role is well suited to someone who enjoys variety and wants to do more than execute a single study protocol. You will work with different research teams, populations, study designs, and EEG applications, gaining exposure to the full research lifecycle and to the ways objective neurophysiological measures can inform questions in cognitive health.

• Coordinate and support research studies from start-up through close-out, including study logistics, EEG data collection, quality control, reporting, documentation, and archiving.
• Conduct non-invasive EEG research procedures with human participants, including participant preparation, sensor setup, acquisition, monitoring, and study assessments as applicable to the protocol.
• Train and support study technicians and research site personnel on EEG equipment, acquisition procedures, study workflows, and applicable SOPs.
• Conduct EEG studies in-house at the ABM Carlsbad facility and offsite as needed.
• Apply EEG acquisition expertise to help ensure reliable, high-quality data across clinical and research applications; sleep EEG and sleep-wake experience is particularly valuable.
• Work with ABM’s proprietary EEG hardware and software to acquire, review, and process EEG data
• Troubleshoot technical and study-related issues, document findings, and proactively elevate product or data-quality concerns.
• Monitor study progress and support clinical trials, research studies, and related projects, including equipment/asset allocation and study documentation.
• Proactively identify, document, and communicate critical study issues, risks, and deviations to management.
• Support participant recruitment and enrollment activities for in-house studies and administer questionnaires or other study assessments as required.
• Conduct human subject research and clinical trial activities in accordance with applicable protocols, ICH Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and ABM procedures; support IRB-related activities as needed.
• Maintain current GCP certification.
• Travel required: Less than 20%.

Qualifications:

• 2+ years of experience in clinical research, human subjects research, EEG technology, sleep research, or a related field.
• Hands-on experience acquiring EEG data as an EEG technician/technologist or in a comparable research or clinical role.
• Experience with sleep EEG, polysomnography, sleep-wake research, or related sleep assessments
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel, and Teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience training EEG technicians, research coordinators, or other study personnel
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot issues and work effectively when solutions are not fully standardized.
• High degree of attention to detail and ability to prioritize multiple tasks and evolving deadlines.
• Comfort learning new technology and software quickly, with a proactive approach to identifying and communicating product, data, and workflow issues.

Education:

Bachelor of Arts or Science degree with minimum of two years relevant experience.A combination of some college coursework and minimum three years of relevant experience may substitute for a degree.
