Clinical Research Assistant serves as a health promotion advocate in the Emergency Departments PH2S/HealthNow Program, a population health-focused initiative using a systemic approach to address health needs proactively, especially for patients living with HIV, Hepatitis C, substance use, etc. The role involves identifying and intervening with at-risk populations early and connecting them with community resources to improve health outcomes. Under the supervision of the Clinical Research Manager or Project Leader, and in cooperation with patient care teams, the assistant performs clinical-support and administrative functions to support the program effectively.
The position includes interviewing patients to elicit health history, administering questionnaires courteously and empathetically, coordinating point-of-care testing, referring patients to appropriate team members for further support, maintaining patient records with confidentiality, and managing tracking and reporting systems. The assistant also supports community-based clinical research studies, assists with study organization and data entry, and helps prepare progress reports.
The Clinical Research Assistant is responsible for screening patients at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center facilities for services such as OUD/SUD, HIV testing, HCV education, harm reduction, naloxone distribution, and addressing non-clinical barriers to engagement. The role includes providing health promotion education and may involve working in various settings to support implementation, system redesign, education, and quality initiatives.
