Job summary

University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is seeking a contractual Clinical Research Assistant to support the Brain Rehab and Recovery lab within the School of Medicine – Department of Physical Therapy. You will execute bedside screening, lead recruitment with informed consent, and manage biospecimen workflows, while maintaining regulatory readiness and SOP development.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field and prior clinical research experience; familiarity with EMR

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is currently seeking a contractual Clinical Research Assistant to join the School of Medicine - Department of Physical Therapy. This position will support the Brain Rehab and Recovery lab (PI: Dr. Robynne Braun).

PRIMARY DUTIES
  • Execution of daily bedside screening across inpatient units and rehabilitation services via EPIC to ensure identification of eligible participants
  • Leading the recruitment process, including the execution of informed consent (and/or proxy consent for patients with cognitive or communicative impairments)
  • Performance of bedside research procedures, behavioral measures, and standardized assessments
  • Managing end-to-end biospecimen workflow, including collection, handling, and quality control (QC) for downstream -omics analysis
  • Maintenance of IRB submissions, protocol amendments, and the development of site-specific Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure audit readiness
  • Act as the primary drafter for the Facilities, Resources, and Data Management & Sharing Plans (DMSP) sections for major grant applications
  • Support development of TIMELINES Aim 1 & 2 manuscripts through preparation of participant flowcharts, methods sections, and recruitment tables.
  • Maintain a seamless regulatory bridge between R03 close-out and R01 startup phases
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a scientific field of study related to the research of the clinical setting.

Experience: Prior clinical research or hospital experience preferred.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Hands-on experience with electronic medical record (EMR) systems (preferably Epic) preferred.
  • Prior experience working with stroke, brain injury, or rehabilitation patient populations.
  • Demonstrated experience obtaining informed consent in patient populations.
  • Familiarity with IRB data management systems and maintenance of regulatory binders.
  • Strong technical and/or academic writing skills, including experience contributing to manuscripts or NIH grant components.
  • Experience with blood specimen handling and safety protocols.

HIRING RANGE:

$49,000 - $55,000 per year / Commensurate with education and experience
