We help children and families navigate foster care, support families facing conflict and poverty, assist individuals with developmental disabilities, and provide access to health and mental health services. Our programs adopt a whole-person, whole-family, and whole-life approach to unlock solutions for a lifetime.

The NY Foundling's Specialized Clinical and Psychiatric Services Department is recruiting a psychotherapist to provide mental health services to youth in foster care. The therapist will enhance their clinical skills, receive training in evidence-based modalities, supervision toward licensure, and be part of a multidisciplinary team. The primary role involves supporting clients aged 0-21 in achieving their goals through evidence-based therapeutic interventions, including individual, group, and family sessions, and collaborating with other treatment providers.

The main responsibilities include:

  • Providing office-based and telehealth individual, group, and family therapy, covering caseloads as needed, and conducting mental health check-ins and supports.
  • Conducting assessments, screenings, and creating treatment plans to support diagnosis, goal setting, and case conceptualization.
  • Providing crisis intervention using evidence-based methods.
  • Addressing safety and risk factors, including suicidal and homicidal ideation, self-harm, and substance abuse, with safety plans and incident reports as necessary.
  • Preparing for sessions by researching effective strategies and implementing supportive interventions for various ages.
  • Maintaining timely, clear documentation of treatment efforts in compliance with all guidelines.
  • Engaging caregivers and key participants in treatment, overcoming barriers, and collaborating across systems.
  • Participating in training, coaching, and staff meetings for professional development and service quality.
