The NY Foundling's Specialized Clinical and Psychiatric Services Department is recruiting a psychotherapist to provide mental health services and related supports to our youth enrolled in foster care. The therapist will be able to enhance their clinical skills, receive training in evidenced based modalities, receive supervision toward licensure, and be part of a multidisciplinary team. The psychotherapist's primary role is to support clients ages 0-21 in meeting their identified goals using evidence-based models of therapeutic intervention. This includes facilitating individual, group and family therapeutic sessions as well as collaborating with other key figures involved in providing treatment.

Responsibilities

The position is based out of our Staten Island office at 1 Edgewater Plaza. It is a hybrid position, 35 hours per week, with at least 3 days onsite required. Some evening hours may be needed to accommodate seeing youth after school and may extend to 7:00 or 7:30pm on some days.

The Psychotherapist's Main Responsibilities Are To

  • Provide office-based and telehealth individual, group, and/or family therapy to assigned caseload and provide coverage for peer's caseload as needed. Provide mental health check-ins and supports to assigned skill building caseload.
  • Conduct thorough intakes, screenings and assessments, and create individualized treatment plans to support with diagnosing, goal formulation, and case conceptualization.
  • Provide direct clinical crisis intervention treatment using methods compatible with evidence based model principles and practices.
  • Identify and address safety/risk factors including but not limited to suicidal ideation, self-harming behaviors, homicidal ideation, and substance abuse. This includes the completion of safety plans and incident reports if necessary.
  • Prepare for hosting sessions by researching effective intervention strategies, and identify creative ways of implementing supportive strategies to a wide range of ages.
  • Maintain clear, concise and timely documentation of treatment efforts in progress notes that demonstrate compliance with the agency, modality, local, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Engage primary caregiver(s) and other key participants in active change-oriented treatment by identifying and overcoming barriers to engagement. Collaborate with all relevant systems and key participants within each system to ensure their buy-in and alignment throughout treatment.
  • Participate in all required agency, model and stakeholder trainings, individual and group coaching and staff meetings to promote clinical development and ensure effective service delivery.

Salary Range - $63,750-$72,250/year

Qualifications

Education/Licensure - Master's degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling or related subject area.

At minimum must hold a provisional license or be eligible to apply for a provisional license. (LP-MHC, LMSW, LMHC, LMFT, LCAT and/or LCSW).

All provisionally licensed clinicians are expected to participate in clinical license supervision

  • General computer literacy; including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, and Email
  • Experience with common clinical problems including general knowledge of DSM-5 diagnoses (e.g., child abuse and neglect, aggression, family conflict, depression, anxiety, drug use, traumatic events, truancy) and diverse populations served.
  • An understanding and commitment to complying with the New York State Central Register of Abuse and Neglect protocol (requiring staff to comply with requirements to report any suspected abuse, maltreatment or neglect)
  • Preferred strong understanding and the ability to implement the following: risk and safety assessment, safety planning, trauma assessment, crisis management, incident reporting, treatment planning, and HIPAA policies
  • Experience with and willingness to work with culturally diverse population

Education Required

Masters’s Degree from a U.S. accredited educational institution or Credential Evaluation for a non-U.S. educational institution

$63,750-$72,250/year
