Job summary

Howard University in Washington, DC, is seeking a Clinic Manager for the Department of Community Medicine to support patient care and clinical operations. The role oversees physician productivity, scheduling, and budgeting within ambulatory services.

The position reports to the Director of Clinical Operations and Community Medicine and requires prior outpatient management experience and relevant healthcare administration credentials.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years outpatient management experience managing a physician practice with productivity or P&L responsibility.

Responsibilities

• Manages physician productivity and ensures sessions align with cFTE established by Department Chair.
• Prepares monthly productivity reports based on MGMA or other benchmarks.
• Coordinates with Access Center to schedule referrals per guidelines.
• Ensures pre-visit planning rubrics are followed and division huddles conducted.
• Implements ambulatory staffing model and updates triage matrix with Scheduling Advisor.
• Manages vaccines and pharmacy orders; oversees division budgets and variances.
• Supports business development efforts with Executive Director.

Education

Associate degree in Health Administration/Public Health/Business Administration

RN/LPN or equivalent nursing credential

BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Director of Clinical Operations and Community Medicine Chair, the Clinic Manager for the Department of Community Medicine supports patient care and clinical operations for Community Medicine.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Manages physician productivity and ensures physicians work correct sessions based on the cFTE established by the Department Chair
• Works with Business Managers to prepare monthly productivity reports based on MGMA or other assigned benchmark
• Works with the Access Center team to ensure Medicine referrals are scheduled based on the Scheduled Advisor Guidelines
• Ensure divisions adhere to pre-visit planning rubrics and conduct division huddles
• Implements the Ambulatory staffing model
• Works with Access Center Director to update Schedule Advisor and Red/Yellow/Green triage matrix
• Works with Clinical Director to ensure division pre-visit planning templates are updated annually
• Works with clinical teams to ensure prescription refills and clinical orders are processed according to service level agreements
• Supports Executive Director with Business Development efforts
• Works with Clinical Director to set & manage par supply levels for each division
• Manage vaccine and pharmacy orders
• Manages each division's budget and reports variances
• Represents the Department of Community Medicine on the patient safety and quality committee
• Works with the Patient Experience Director to monitor Press Ganey results and enhance patient experience
• Manages position control and works with Human Resources to recruit and train new staff
• Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Associate Degree in Health Administration, Public Health, Business Administration (or equivalent degree).
• OR Associates/Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Registered Nurse (Associate RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
• 5 years+ outpatient management experience managing a physician practice, with productivity and/or profit loss responsibility required.

Compliance Salary Range Disclosure

Expected Pay Range: $63,636 - $70,000
