Job summary

Penn Medicine is seeking a dedicated Fulltime Pharmacy Technician to join the specialty pharmacy clinical team. The role supports medication access needs and quality assurance through follow up on clinical appeals and specialty accreditation reassessments in the EMR, collaborating with ambulatory care pharmacists.

Under pharmacist supervision, technicians fill outpatient prescriptions, manage inventory, prepare medications for shipment or pickup, communicate with patients by phone or in person,

Qualifications

• H.S. Diploma/GED (Required).
• Six months of prior Pharmacy experience in a retail/outpatient pharmacy or payer environment. Infusion sterile compounding experience preferred for Ambulatory Infusion.

Responsibilities

• Prepares medications for dispensing under the supervision of the pharmacist, demonstrating accuracy, precision, and consistency relating to selection, packaging, and labeling functions.
• Retrieves and interpret prescriptions
• Perform pharmaceutical calculations, considering patient and drug characteristics
• Enter prescriptions, patient health information and insurance information into the clinical pharmacy information system for pharmacist review.
• Communicates with insurance carriers to obtain payment for prescription claims.
• Runs cash register accurately and dispenses prescriptions to patients
• Triages phone calls and requests from customers for assistance.
• Delivers medications to assigned areas
• Assists in maintaining proper inventory and control of drugs and supplies purchased by the Pharmacy. Regularly rotate medication inventory and check for expired medications.
