Job summary

Keck Hospital of USC, a major teaching hospital in California, seeks a Pharmacy Technician to prepare and dispense medications under pharmacist supervision. You will handle Pyxis systems, sterile compounding, dose calculations, and inventory control in a fast-paced hospital setting.

The role requires CA DCA registration, high school diploma and graduation from an accredited technician program, plus at least 1 year of pharmacy experience and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• High school or equivalent required.
• Graduation from accredited Pharmacy Technician School required.
• 1 year experience in Pharmacy.
• Able to perform dose calculations and sterile/hazardous drug compounding per USP797/800.
• Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
• Pharmacy Technician (CA DCA) Registration with California State Board of Pharmacy.
• Fire Life Safety Training (LA City). If no card on hire, within 30 days obtain and renew.

Responsibilities

• Under direct supervision of the pharmacist, assist in drug distribution and IV admixture.
• Operate Pyxis system; ensure medications are properly barcoded.
• Maintain accurate controlled substance inventory using the CII Pyxis system (Keck).
• Prepare and dispense medications with pharmacist verification.
• Assist with chemotherapy preparation and Texium system usage.
• Calculate, record, and issue charges; handle OR billing.
• Maintain a safe, clean pharmacy following procedures and regulations.
• Document pharmacy log sheets and expiration medication assignments monthly.
• Repackage/unit-dose medications using MILT4; maintain aseptic technique.
• Use Cerner/PowerChart/Pyxis to triage workflow and check history.
• Restock and rotate pharmacy supplies; assist in notifying providers via phone.
• Prioritize duties to maintain shift-specific workflow; perform other duties as assigned.
