WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals in Morgantown, WV seeks a Pharmacy Technician to support retail pharmacy operations. You will gather patient data, assist with dispensing, verify insurance and pre-certifications, and communicate with clinicians as needed.
The role requires a high school diploma and state licensure; a tech training program completion and national certification are preferred, with potential for certification within 15 months of hire. 40-hour weeks, on-site employment.
Responsible for securing patient data based upon comprehensive data elements, financial education/counseling, insurance verification, provision of clinical information for pre-certification, authorization and third party claims management. Interviews patient for clinical, financial, and history information and arranges appropriate clinical care. A Clinical Pharmacy Technician will work independently gathering and submitted patient information with oversight of a pharmacist as needed. They will be responsible for performing pharmacy related functions in compliance with departmental policies and procedures that provide optimal pharmaceutical care.

This position supports retail pharmacy operations by working closely with pharmacy managers and the pharmacy analyst to reduce drug spend and optimize purchasing strategies. This role will assist in evaluating medication utilization, identifying cost-saving opportunities such as lower-cost NDC alternatives, and supporting standardization efforts across pharmacy sites. The technician helps implement inventory optimization initiatives, monitors drug pricing trends and shortages, and ensures alignment with established purchasing strategies. In collaboration with leadership, this position will contribute to data-driven decision-making by assisting with audits, tracking key performance metrics, and supporting financial analyses related to reimbursement, margins, and overall pharmacy performance.
In addition, will play a key role in expanding and supporting Medical Benefit (Med B) services, including assisting with workflow development, documentation, and operational execution. The technician supports internal audits to ensure compliance with regulatory, payer, and organizational standards, while identifying opportunities for process improvement. This position is actively involved in advancing business initiatives, departmental goals, and strategic projects, including new service lines and program enhancements. The role requires strong attention to detail, collaboration across teams, and the ability to support both clinical and business-focused initiatives that improve financial performance, operational efficiency, and patient access to care.
