This Retail Pharmacist will be responsible for:
- Reviewing, filling, and dispensing physician medication orders/prescriptions. Interpreting and evaluating medication orders to ensure appropriate drug and dosage for the patient, and contacting physicians as needed.
- Checking orders/prescriptions filled by support personnel, verifying correct preparation and labeling of products.
- Counseling patients on proper use, storage, and side effects of prescribed medications.
- Supervising, prioritizing, and assigning work to technical support personnel within the area of responsibility. Monitoring work volume and delegating tasks to meet schedules and patient care needs.
- Monitoring and evaluating work performance, providing guidance, feedback, and instruction to ensure proper preparation, labeling, recording, and distribution of medications according to procedures and regulations.
- Educating and advising physicians, nursing, and pharmacy staff on drug interactions, contraindications, allergies, side effects, and administration instructions. Conducting in-service education and maintaining drug information materials.
- Preparing and maintaining logs and records, such as controlled substance distribution, quality assurance reviews, and work statistics. Performing audits and documenting results.
- Monitoring and updating internal systems, procedures, and guidelines for the unit. Reviewing and improving operations and practice standards.
- Orienting new staff pharmacists and overseeing training of support personnel. Participating in departmental training and serving as a preceptor for interns.
- Maintaining pharmacy equipment, supplies, and facilities.
To qualify, you must have:
- Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy plus up to one year of postgraduate coursework or internship, and two to three years of general pharmacy experience or one year of pediatric-specific experience. A Doctorate in Pharmacy is preferred.
- Massachusetts pharmacist or intern license; pharmacist license must be obtained within 90 days of employment.
- Previous hospital-based retail experience is highly preferred.
- Strong analytical skills for data collection, analysis, and problem-solving or system design.
- Effective communication skills for handling conflicting issues and documentation.
Schedule is days/evenings, rotating weekends.
