Job summary

Inova Health is seeking a Clinical Pharmacist – Operations to join the team at our Chantilly location. This full-time, Monday–Friday role focuses on patient-centered pharmacotherapy, clinical consultation, and operations within the retail and specialty pharmacy setting.

The position requires a PharmD or B Pharm, VA Pharmacist license, PGY1 residency, and BLS/ACLS/PALS within 90 days of hire to ensure safe, compliant medication management and collaborative care across clinical teams.

Qualifications

• Doctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor degree in Pharmacy.
• Licensed Pharmacist in the state of VA.
• PGY1 Residency.
• BLS, ACLS for Critical Care and Emergency Medicine, and PALS within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Interprets, prepares, and verifies medication orders.
• Provides clinical consultation and cost-effective alternatives.
• Issues controlled substances in compliance with the DEA and VA Board of Pharmacy.
• Participates in formulary review and approval.
• Monitors drug therapies for interactions and adverse effects.
• Reports adverse drug reactions promptly.
• Minimizes non-formulary procurement and supports substitutions.
• Supervises pharmacy support staff.
• Participates in continuous quality improvement.
• Decentralized rounding with clinical teams and respond to emergent bedside alerts.

Clinical Pharmacist Job Responsibilities

• Provides clinical consultation and cost-effective alternatives.
• Issues controlled substances in compliance according to the DEA and VA Board of Pharmacy requirements.
• Participates in the medication formulary review and approval process.
• Monitors drug therapies for interactions, allergies, and appropriateness.
• Reports adverse drug reactions promptly and accurately.
• Minimizes non-formulary procurement and supports substitutions.
• Supervises pharmacy support staff.
• Participates in continuous quality improvement.
• May perform additional duties as assigned, including, but not limited to:
  • Participating in decentralized rounding with clinical teams.
  • Responding to emergent bedside alerts and codes (adult and pediatric as designated).

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: Doctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor degree in Pharmacy .
• Licensed Pharmacist in the state of VA.
• Experience: PGY1 Residency.
• Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) for Critical Care and Emergency Medicine, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 90 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

• One (1) year as a pharmacist.
