Summary

Reports to the Pharmacist-in-Charge. Under general supervision of a Pharmacy Supervisor, responsible for interpretation, evaluation, preparation, and dispensing of medications according to legitimate orders, policies, procedures, standards of practice, and scope of pharmacy services. Collaborates with care providers to monitor and intervene for safe, appropriate, and cost-effective medication use. Oversees pharmacy technicians and support personnel.

Responsibilities
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Adhere to Brown University Health Corporate Compliance Program and Code of Conduct.
  • Review and interpret medication orders for completeness and appropriateness, contacting prescribers for interventions as needed.
  • Apply pharmacotherapeutic and pharmacokinetic principles to ensure safe medication use.
  • Provide drug information and consultation to healthcare professionals.
  • Supervise pharmacy interns and technicians, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Identify and resolve drug therapy problems.
  • Engage with clinical pharmacists for complex cases.
  • Implement medication therapy management and pharmaceutical care.
  • Participate in pharmacokinetic dosing and monitoring.
  • Ensure compliance with drug programs and document interventions.
  • Participate in emergency responses and multidisciplinary rounds.
  • Review and approve sterile and non-sterile compounded formulations.
  • Contribute to education and training of healthcare staff and students.
  • Engage in quality improvement activities.
  • Assist in transitions of care.
  • Maintain professional competence through ongoing development.
Other Information
Basic Knowledge
  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited college.
  • Current unrestricted pharmacist licensure in Rhode Island or temporary license with full licensure obtained prior to expiration.
  • American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certifications within 120 days of hire.
Experience
  • PGY-1 Residency and/or Board Certification preferred.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy technology and software.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
  • Extended standing and walking.
  • Visual and manual dexterity for computer operation.
  • Occasional travel between sites.
Independent Action

Works independently within policies, referring complex issues to supervisors.
