Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy.
• Licensed to practice pharmacy in Massachusetts by start date.
• PGY1 residency with at least 1 year of relevant experience; PGY2 in Emergency Medicine or Critical Care preferred.
• Two years of hospital experience and/or ASHP hospital residency are preferred, with strong interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care and optimize pharmacotherapy to improve outcomes.
• Ensure medication safety and facilitate effective transitions of care.
• Participate in trauma response and perioperative pharmacotherapy in the ED.
• Prepare select IV products for immediate use and support quality improvement projects.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Clinical Pharmacist II 7/7 is responsible for the provision of direct patient care. Direct patient care activities include improving patient outcomes by optimizing pharmacotherapy, ensuring medication safety, and promoting effective transitions of care. The Clinical Pharmacist II 7/7 will have the opportunity to participate in committees and project work, provide education and training to other health care providers, and precept Advance Pharmacy Practice Experience students and pharmacy residents.

This is a permanent night position, and includes weekends and holidays. This is an exciting position in one of the busiest Emergency Departments in the country. Our department has provided 24/7 emergency medicine pharmacy services for several years.

The pharmacist will be responsible for working the overnight shift in the Emergency Department (9 pm - 7:30 am) for seven days in a row from Wednesday through the following Tuesday. The pharmacist will then have 7 days in a row off. This pharmacist will be part of a dedicated team of Emergency Department pharmacists within a larger, collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

Responsibilities include medical and surgical trauma response, provision of pharmacotherapy to adult and pediatric ED patients, preparation of select IV products for immediate use, and participation in departmental quality improvement projects. This position will also be responsible for student precepting on an overnight APPE rotation that if offered to multiple local schools of pharmacy. Motivated pharmacists may also get involved in training PGY1 residents, a PGY2 Critical Care resident, and/or a PGY2 Emergency Medicine resident.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education: Work requires a Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Required: Work requires licensure to practice pharmacy in the state of Massachusetts by the start date.

Knowledge and Skills: Work requires PGY1 residency with at least 1 year relevant experience. PGY2 in Emergency Medicine or Critical Care, or equivalent preferred. Work requires a level of proficiency with hospital pharmacy practice acquired with at least two years of hospital experience, and/or completion of an ASHP accredited residency in hospital pharmacy practice. Work requires substantial interpersonal skills towards our customers (particularly patients, physicians and nurses) and fellow employees of the hospital.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Compensation Range: $53.85- $78.13. This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, skills, and certifications/licensures as they directly relate to position requirements; as well as business/organizational needs, internal equity, and market-competitiveness.
