Job Description

The Clinical Pharmacist is responsible for identifying, preventing, and resolving medication-related problems, providing authoritative information to healthcare professionals, patients, and the public, and ensuring integrated pharmacy services for patient-centered care.

The Department of Pharmacy aims to deliver safe, high-quality, effective, and efficient patient care, develop staff, advance research, and coordinate care across Northwestern Medicine.

The vision is to be a national leader in pharmacy through excellence, innovation, education, and research.

Responsibilities
  • Preferred certifications/experience: Critical Care Pharmacy Certification (BCCP), Pharmacotherapy Specialty Certification (BCPS), or 1 year ICU experience.
  • Attend ICU rounds, precept pharmacy residents, rotate staffing in ICU, participate in committees, and provide education to staff and providers.
  • Interpret medication orders, monitor therapy, evaluate appropriateness, and communicate with prescribers.
  • Act as a pharmacokinetics and adverse reactions consultant, process medication orders, maintain patient profiles, oversee medication packaging and distribution.
  • Compound pharmaceuticals, verify medication orders, review lab data, develop educational programs, and educate patients and families.
  • Respond to emergency situations, maintain formulary, document activities, and participate in quality improvement activities.
  • Organize workload, review automated dispensing cabinets, ensure hazardous waste procedures, and maintain professional development.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Current Illinois pharmacy license
  • Bachelor’s or Doctor of Pharmacy degree

Preferred:

  • Specialty training (neonatology, oncology, etc.), completion of a residency or equivalent experience.
