Job summary

BSA Health System is seeking a Pharmacy Clinical Pharmacist for a variable shift in Amarillo, TX. This PRN role focuses on optimizing patient care, medication safety, and collaborative practice with physicians and staff.

Responsibilities include dispensing, IV admixture, drug information, and leadership of technicians and students. Licensure, BLS, and ACLS/BLS requirements apply, with preference for hospital pharmacy experience.

Qualifications

  • B.S. or Pharm D. from an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy.
  • Active Pharmacist license in good standing with the appropriate State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Other applicable state requirements – i.e., sterile compounding, etc .
  • BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.
  • ALS/ ACLS certification (BLS required within 90 days of hire; ALS/ACLS required for attending Code Blue) .
  • Doctor of Pharmacy from an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy is preferred.
  • 1 year inpatient hospital pharmacy experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Optimizes patient care by providing appropriate, safe, and cost effective pharmaceutical care including drug dispensing, IV admixture program, and providing drug information.
  • Works under the direction of the Director of Pharmacy and/or the Pharmacy Operations Manager and will oversee the work of pharmacy technicians, students, and support staff.
  • Interpret orders and transcribe or verify them accurately and efficiently in the pharmacy computer system.
  • Accurately compound and dispense pharmaceuticals.
  • Monitor drug therapy regimens for contraindications, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, allergies and appropriateness of drug and dose.
  • Provide accurate and timely medication information to healthcare staff and patients.
  • Effectively and proactively interact with medical staff regarding drug therapy issue resolutions.
  • Document all clinical activities and interventions accurately and completely.
  • Sustain the hospital formulary, minimizing non-formulary procurements, utilizing therapeutic interchanges and other approved formulary protocols and/or guardrails.
  • Supervise and assist pharmacy technicians and other support staff effectively.
  • Prioritize work and lead others to comply with facility medication turn-around time policy and procedure and identify areas for improved efficiency.
  • Must serve as preceptor for pharmacy students and/or residents.
  • Support and participate in the goals of the organization’s quality improvement, risk management, and patient safety program to include but not limited to National Patient Safety Goals, Core Measures, and HCAHPS medication related initiatives.
  • Maintain appropriate controlled substance records.
  • Make appropriate evidence-based, patient-centered medication recommendations.
  • Participate in the management of medical emergencies as appropriate, including, but not limited to Code Blue.
  • Provide clinical consultation and clarification to practitioners. Suggests appropriate, cost-effective therapeutic alternatives to medical staff as needed.
