Job summary

Alton Memorial Hospital is seeking a licensed pharmacist for inpatient operations, joining an experienced team dedicated to patient-centered care in a fast-paced clinical environment.

The role requires MO and IL licensure with a focus on medication therapy management, drug information, and collaboration with clinicians to optimize outcomes. The schedule includes a 7-on/7-off rotation and a 1 PM–11 PM shift, with holiday coverage and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• Licensure as a Pharmacist (RPh) in MO and IL.
• Direct and supervise workflow of pharmacy staff and students.
• Engage in medication therapy management and drug information services.

Responsibilities

• Directs and manages workflow including oversight of technicians, interns and volunteers ensuring accuracy of their work.
• Participates in departmental meetings and committees.
• Serves as medication therapy resource for drug information and transitions of care.
• Evaluates medication orders for appropriateness to optimize patient outcomes.
• Identify opportunities to improve safety and efficiency in the medication use process.

Overview

Since 1937, Alton Memorial Hospital has cared for residents in Alton, Illinois, and the surrounding communities in a five-county area. Starting as a land gift to the community from the Smith family, Alton Memorial today is a full-service acute care hospital. Alton Memorial offers patients a variety of inpatient and outpatient services, including surgery services, medical imaging, interventional and diagnostic heart services, cancer care, rehabilitation, 24-hour emergency care, ambulance services and more.

Preferred Qualifications

Assess, monitor, initiate and modify medication use according to patient condition and age specific criteria. Ensure prompt and accurate medication preparation and dispensing. Prevent, direct and resolve medication-related issues. Supervise and direct supportive personnel. Counsel and educate to promote optimal drug therapy. Direct and assist in the procurement, storage, distribution and disposal of medications.

Responsibilities

• Directs and manages workflow including oversight of technicians, interns and volunteers ensuring the accuracy of their work in accordance with departmental procedures and Federal and State regulations.
• Participates in departmental meetings and on committees at the health service organization, as appropriate.
• Serves as medication therapy resource for activities such as drug information, training of staff, transitions of care and Medication Therapy Services.
• Evaluates medication orders for appropriateness with regard to patient condition, organ function and concomitant therapies to promote optimal patient outcomes. Documents all activities and communication as appropriate.
• Recognize opportunities and offer solutions to maximize efficiency and promote safety within the medication use process.
