Job summary

Parkland Health Center in Farmington, MO, is seeking a Clinical Pharmacist to join its inpatient pharmacy team. The role emphasizes medication management, clinical dosing and monitoring, and oncology/infusion services to advance patient care.

You will supervise technicians and collaborate with physicians to optimize therapy and safety across the Parkland network. The position requires MO licensure and a PharmD; hospital setting and oncology experience are highly valued.

Qualifications

  • Must hold MO Pharmacy license and be eligible for MO Medication Therapy Services.
  • Experience in inpatient pharmacy and oncology/infusion services preferred.
  • Strong clinical judgment and communication skills required.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, monitor, and optimize medication use per patient condition and age criteria.
  • Direct and supervise technicians, interns, and workflow in the pharmacy.
  • Provide drug information, staff training, and transitions of care support.
  • Review orders for safety and efficacy; document activities and communications.
  • Identify opportunities to improve safety and efficiency in the medication use process.

Overview

As part of BJC HealthCare, Parkland Health Center offers a unique combination of world-class medicine along with the deep local roots and rich history of its three predecessors – Bonne Terre Hospital (opened in 1911), Mineral Area Regional Medical Center (1952), and Farmington Community Hospital (1969). Parkland Health Center has two locations in St. Francois County, Missouri – a full-service acute care hospital in Farmington as well as a rural emergency hospital in Bonne Terre. Parkland Health Center provides quality primary and secondary level inpatient and outpatient services to the people of St. Francois County and surrounding areas in southeastern Missouri.

In addition, Parkland’s Farmington campus offers a full continuum of inpatient and medical-surgical and intensive care, obstetrics and emergency services, along with a wide variety of outpatient services including oncology services, an infusion center, a wound care clinic, and the Huckstep Heart and Lung Center. Bonne Terre is a Rural Emergency Hospital providing emergency services and outpatient services including medical observation, lab, radiology, and sleep study.

The Pharmacy Department supports our inpatient services by providing quality prescription services in a timely, accurate manner to our inpatients. Detail is given to each individual patient needs and pharmacist intervention occurs on an as needed basis.

Preferred Qualifications
Role Purpose

Assess, monitor, initiate and modify medication use according to patient condition and age specific criteria. Ensure prompt and accurate medication preparation and dispensing. Prevent, direct and resolve medication-related issues. Supervise and direct supportive personnel. Counsel and educate to promote optimal drug therapy. Direct and assist in the procurement, storage, distribution and disposal of medications.

Responsibilities
  • Directs and manages workflow including oversight of technicians, interns and volunteers ensuring the accuracy of their work in accordance with departmental procedures and Federal and State regulations.
  • Participates in departmental meetings and on committees at the health service organization, as appropriate.
  • Serves as medication therapy resource for activities such as drug information, training of staff, transitions of care and Medication Therapy Services.
  • Evaluates medication orders for appropriateness with regard to patient condition, organ function and concomitant therapies to promote optimal patient outcomes. Documents all activities and communication as appropriate.
  • Recognize opportunities and offer solutions to maximize efficiency and promote safety within the medication use process.
