Job description

Description

The physician is responsible for the care of patients in the hospital and clinics, as well as some other initiatives as determined by the Division Chief and/or the Center leadership.

Qualifications

Minimum Education
Medical Doctor (M.D.) from an accredited medical school. (Required)

Required Skills/Knowledge
Knowledge of current principles, methods, and procedures for medical evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment in the area of expertise.
Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for medical care.
Ability to evaluate patient problems independently and develop care plans.
Ability to incorporate ethical concepts into patient care and discuss these with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
Ability to supervise, advise, and train clinical professionals and students.
Commitment to maintaining quality, safety, and infection control standards.
Continuous Medical Education to stay current in subspecialty developments.
Knowledge of and compliance with legal and ethical standards in medical care.

Required Licenses and Certifications
Fully licensed and credentialed attending physician at Children's National Medical Center. Board certified or eligible for certification in primary specialty.

  • Provide clinical services ethically, professionally, and timely; allocate 90% effort to clinical activities and 10% to non-clinical activities.
  • Oversee medical care teams and manage patient care for specific populations; improve continuity, customer service, and communication with community providers.
  • Participate in family-centered care and communicate professionally and compassionately; refer patients as appropriate.
  • Utilize chain of command and escalation policies effectively.
  • Respond promptly and respectfully to team and external providers; communicate expectations clearly to trainees and encourage questions.

Commitment to Advocacy (As Needed)

  • Participate in advocacy initiatives and contribute to public policy efforts promoting pediatric health and well-being.
  • Educate patients and families on treatment, prevention, and care techniques.
  • Engage in health promotion and education programs.

  • Participate in medical education programs and hospital/university-wide educational efforts.
  • Provide feedback and ensure proper orientation for trainees.
  • Supervise and train clinical staff and students effectively.

  • Identify service problems and recommend improvements.
  • Participate in policy development and review, peer evaluation, and error reporting.
