Job summary

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Utah is seeking a Genetic Counselor to provide clinical genetic counseling services and support research efforts.

The role primarily supports outpatient clinical genetic counseling for Primary Children’s Hospitals in Salt Lake City and Lehi, offering education, risk assessment, counseling, and follow-up to individuals and families who have or may have genetic health conditions.

Qualifications

• Current license as a Genetic Counselor in Utah.
• Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling from an accredited program.

Responsibilities

• Performs genetic risk assessments by collecting and evaluating medical and family histories.
• Analyzes and interprets information from patients, medical records and resources.
• Explains testing options, procedures and results; provides counseling as needed.
• Works with health care team to implement the care plan.
• Advises patients and families regarding community resources.
• Participates in the University of Utah Genetic Counseling Graduate Program activities.
