Job summary

Ridgeview is seeking a Patient Observer (Nursing Support) in Waconia, MN. The role provides continuous bedside observation for suicide risk and safety, under RN direction, with tasks including patient support, ADLs, feeding, hydration, and documentation. Requires high school diploma; BLS certification within 30 days; ability to communicate in English; prior direct patient care preferred; part-time schedule with benefits eligibility.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Description

Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for continuous monitoring of the patient at the bedside to assure patient safety when the patient is a suicide risk or is at risk of harming themselves by pulling lines, falling, wandering, and other behaviors.

Job Functions

• Remains at patient's bedside giving continuous observation and intervention under the direction of the RN.
• Provides direct patient support and interventions under the direction of the RN, including verbal redirection, orientation, diversion activities such as imagery, story telling, reading, game playing, towel folding, etc., feeding and hydration assistance, toileting, ambulation, repositioning activities of daily living (ADL's) and interventions to reduce the risk of falls, self-harm, wandering, or disruption of medical devices.
• Documents patient behaviors, cares, interventions, and patient response.
• Accompanies patient and ensures patient safety during transportation, testing, and procedures occurring away from the patient’s normal environment.
• Performs room assessment regularly and after any visitations.
• Responds to patient call lights and communicates patient needs to nursing staff in a timely manner.
• Supports department operations by maintaining a safe, clean and organized patient care environment, including restocking supplies, monitoring inventory, preparing patient rooms, housekeeping items and assisting with unit readiness activities or other items requiring attention to support patient care and departmental operations.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Ability to meet and maintain the necessary background checks as aligned with position functions.
• Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above.
• Ability to accurately report to nurse any observed changes in the patient’s behavior and/or condition
• Ability to respond appropriately to unpredictable situations and diverse patient populations

License/Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross within 30 days from hire.
