GOC Registration

Job description

We are always looking for great talent to join our team and help achieve our ambitious goals and growth. We care about our people, and we care about the future of eye health and how CHEC can play an innovative part in making this great, with your help.

Are you an Optometrist who wants to continue helping people but need a better work-life balance?

If yes, then CHEC is your employer of choice! We have an exciting opportunity for an Optometrist to join us as we continue to expand throughout the UK.

Main duties of the job

This role would suit an Optometrist who has 12 months post-registration experience and holds current GOC registration. You will be willing to expand your horizons and take the leap into the clinical side of optometry.

Our Optometrists provide independent eye care and make assessments on the need for cataract surgery, ensuring patients understand the risks and benefits and providing reassurance throughout.

If successful, we will support your professional development. We can potentially offer training in YAG laser; this depends on the site's activity and the services offered in the area.

About us

Since 2012, CHEC has been working with the NHS to increase patient choice and provide better access to exceptional, timely, locally-based ophthalmology and gastroenterology care free at the point of care.

CHEC has a nationwide portfolio of community hospitals and clinics operating in a unique hub-and-spoke model. We are proud to have a role alongside colleagues in the NHS, offering patients the choice of access to essential procedures and helping achieve the best possible clinical outcomes.

We continue to expand our community-based healthcare services across England, including ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) and Dermatology services.

CHEC is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults. All employees are expected to share this commitment and adhere to CHEC Safeguarding policies. Recruitment checks are undertaken in accordance with NHS Employment Check Standards, and successful applicants may be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure via the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Job responsibilities
  • Assess and counsel patients for cataract surgery, including discussing expected outcomes.
  • Ensure patients understand the risks and benefits of surgery with a considerate manner reflecting their needs.
  • Provide reassurance throughout the patient journey.
  • Ensure post-operative management is undertaken with the support of medical staff.
  • Undertake YAG laser procedures with appropriate training.
