Job summary

The University of Houston Optometry Clinic is seeking a skilled optician support role to instruct, evaluate and work with optometry students in selecting, fitting and dispensing ophthalmic eyewear. The position oversees students during heavy patient load to ensure high-quality care for every patient.

You will assist students in opticianry tasks, fabricate spectacles in the finishing lab, and coordinate solutions with labs, doctors and clinics while maintaining patient communication and service

Qualifications

• ABO certification preferred.
• Conversational Spanish speaking skills preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists and trains students in opticianry skills.
• Fabricates spectacles in finishing lab.
• Analyzes patient's optical problems and coordinates solutions with other clinics, doctors and laboratories.
• Fits, adjusts and dispenses eyewear to patients.
• Verifies spectacle prescriptions upon receipt from laboratory.
• Communicates with optical laboratories and vendors to expedite delivery of optical goods.
• Communicates with doctors and faculty to resolve patient visual complaints and problems.
• Answers patient questions in person and over the telephone.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
