Job summary

UC Health is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) to support the patient care unit with reception and clerical tasks. The role emphasizes teamwork, confidential communication, and accurate charting to facilitate smooth patient flow.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma, 1–2 years of customer service experience, and familiarity with medical terminology. Training on hospital systems and safety will be provided during orientation.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; HUC education from college or vocational school preferred.
• Years of Experience: 1-2 years equivalent customer service experience.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook; familiarity with database systems.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred; completes annual required training including hospital safety.
• BLS certification or ability to obtain during orientation.

Responsibilities

• Work with the team to accomplish daily unit tasks and goals; support group cohesiveness.
• Communicate clearly and confidentially with patients, visitors and staff; document accurately.
• Assemble patient charts, prepare for operating room, and manage charting and forms.
• Distribute information to clinicians and coordinate discharge and admissions processes.
