Clinical Nursing Instructor, Undergraduate - Adjunct Faculty

The Adjunct Clinical Nursing Instructor - Undergraduate is an adjunct position responsible for teaching, supervising, and evaluating nursing students in affiliated clinical organizations, Skills Lab, and Simulation Center.

Summary: This position supports student learning by connecting theory principles with clinical judgment.

Responsibilities

The clinical instructor will be responsible for:

  • Demonstrating competent nursing practice, following accepted standards, laws, and rules regulating the practice of nursing.
  • Functioning within the scope of nursing practice, and maintaining current knowledge in broad and/or specialized areas of nursing.
  • Conducting nursing practice without discrimination.

Clinical Site Responsibilities:

  • Familiarizing self with agency policies and procedures.
  • Completing all required agency training, including electronic health records, HIPAA, medication administration, and orientation to the unit(s) prior to taking students.
  • Orienting staff nurses to the level of the student and the specific learning outcomes for their clinical experience.
  • Encouraging communication between facility staff and faculty.

Department Of Nursing Responsibilities:

  • Meeting with lead course faculty at the beginning of each semester to orient to the course and review student learning outcomes, course syllabus, evaluation, and learning resources.
  • Participating in ongoing communication with lead course faculty and discussing instructional issues and individual student learning needs and progress.
  • Confirming student assignments and congruence with theory content.

Student Instruction Responsibilities:

  • Directing, instructing, and guiding students in the clinical setting.
  • Assigning students to selected patients based on student’s learning needs and patient assessment.
  • Facilitating students in comprehensive, individualized instruction in the observation, assessment, decision-making, and health teaching of patients.

Qualifications:

  • A Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing required; A Master’s Degree in Nursing is preferred.
  • A current unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Michigan.
  • Criminal history and background check clearance, evidence of current American Heart Association CPR training, and a current unencumbered Michigan RN license.
