The Clinical Nurse is a registered professional nurse who demonstrates expert clinical expertise through advanced knowledge and skills in an area of clinical nursing specialization. The Clinical Nurse is able to guide and promote the growth and development of nursing practice through application of advanced nursing knowledge/skills with patients and families, nurses and other health care providers.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical Practice
  • Provides direct patient care within an area of clinical specialization.
  • Provides education to patients, families and/or caregivers using individualized teaching and counseling skills.
  • Participates in the assessment, implementation and ongoing evaluation of clinical services for a designated patient population. Practice includes, but is not limited to:
  • Patient screening
  • Patient/Family education
  • D/C planning and follow-up
  • Case management
  • Research
  • Maintains clinical expertise in area of specialization
  • Serves as a resource for patient and/or families/caregivers.
  • Uses discriminative judgment in the selection, study and application of existing theories from nursing and allied fields applicable to the uniqueness of the patient care situation.
  • Promotes and participates in the interdisciplinary approach to patient care delivery.
  • Acts as a patient advocate utilizing the Patient Bill of Rights.

k. Participates in the Department of Nursing and Hospital Committees.

l. Participates actively in professional organizations.

m. Contributes to the positive image of nursing in the health system and local community by implementing programs that recognize the strengths of the nursing profession.

n. Participates in departmental and interdisciplinary committees which determine policy, standards and clinical procedures that affect nursing practice.

o. Utilizes and participates in the development of hospital, Departmental and Care Center standards, interdisciplinary clinical/pathways, policies, procedures and guidelines as well as regulatory agency standards as appropriate resources.

p. Participates in the development and implementation of a continuous quality improvement program.

q. Treats co-workers, patients and families with dignity and respect.

Qualifications

Education Requirements

Masters Degree in Nursing. Exceptions may be made for candidates from specialty programs with relevant experience.

Experience Requirements

5 years relevant clinical experience.

Experience in leadership and/or education role.

Licensing and Certification Requirements (if applicable)

License: Registered Nurse (current registration) Issuing Agency: DOH/Office of Professions

Name: Basic Life Saver (BCLS) Issuing Agency: AHA

Certification: NRP (Labor and Delivery, NICU dept)

Certification: ACLS (in ED; PACU/ASU; ICUs; Telemetry Units; SDU; IR, Interventional Cardiology (CCL/EP/Echo); L&D; Endoscopy, and APN Adult Oncology

Certification: PALS (in ED; PACU; IR; Peds ICU, and APNs Pediatric Oncology depts.)

Compensation

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $81.336 - $81.336 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
