BARNES-JEWISH HOSPITAL, part of BJC HealthCare, is seeking a Clinical Nurse for the Orthopedic Unit on full-time night shifts. The unit features a 23-bed specialized setting with a 4:1 patient-to-nurse ratio and a strong focus on outcomes and professional development.

Eligible for a sign-on bonus up to $15,000, the role requires RN licensure and a Nursing Diploma/Associate's with Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment.
• Educates patients and families on illness, home care, and medications.
• Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance.
• Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with the interprofessional team.
• Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
• Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs.
• This is a safety-sensitive position; must work in a state of alertness and safety.

About The Orthopedic Unit

Our orthopedic program provides specialized care across a wide range of services, including:

• Foot, ankle, and lower leg care
• Hand and wrist surgery
• Joint preservation, resurfacing, and replacement
• Musculoskeletal oncology
• Physical medicine and rehabilitation
• Shoulder and elbow care
• Spine surgery
• Trauma services

Role Purpose

Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.

Responsibilities

Educates patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post treatment home care needs and medication administration.Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development.Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family or caregiver in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care. Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position.
