Job summary

Barnes-Jewish Hospital is seeking a Clinical Nurse for the Orthopedic Unit on the full-time night shift. The unit handles a wide range of orthopedic care, with a 4:1 patient‑to‑nurse ratio and strong multidisciplinary collaboration.

A sign-on bonus up to $15,000 is available for qualified candidates. Qualified applicants will have RN licensure and nursing education at least to diploma/associate level, with a bachelor's degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Promotes patient and family centered care and educates patients on post-treatment home care needs and medication administration.
• Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development.
• Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with the interprofessional team and patient/family.
• Assesses physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs and respects patient preferences including cultural and spiritual considerations.
• This is a safety-sensitive position; ability to work in a constant state of alertness is essential.

Our orthopedic program provides specialized care across a wide range of services, including:

• Foot, ankle, and lower leg care
• Hand and wrist surgery
• Joint preservation, resurfacing, and replacement

Role Purpose

Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.

Responsibilities

• Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post‑treatment home care needs and medication administration.
• Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development.
• Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family or caregiver in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care. Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
• Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assesses patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population‑specific needs.
