Job summary

Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital is seeking Registered Nurses for the 2100 Inpatient Unit, which handles Orthopedic, Spine, Urological and Plastic Surgery patients. The role supports a short-stay unit focused on exceptional post-operative experiences and safe discharge home.

The position features 3/12 hour evening shifts, with every 4th weekend (Sat/Sun) and one summer and one winter holiday per year. Comprehensive benefits and bonus eligibility are provided as part of BJC Total Rewards.

Qualifications

• RN license/certification required
• Education: Nursing Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing; Bachelor’s degree preferred
• No prior experience required

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.
• Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment.
• Educates patients and their families on illness management and home care needs and medication administration.
• Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance.
• Participates in professional development.
• Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with the interprofessional team and patient, family or caregiver.
• Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
• Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs; respects patient values.

offers highly specialized surgical and medical services in an intimate environment and is known for outstanding patient care. With 64 private patient rooms, 14 operating rooms and four intensive care unit rooms, the facility was designed to provide a comforting environment that is innovative, efficient and centered on the patient experience. The campus features a park-like setting with landscaping and a walking path that winds through the grounds and connects to Millennium Park.Med/Surg 2 manages patients with Orthopedic, Spine, Urological, Plastics and other general post-surgical conditions. Because of our patient acuity, we provide advanced training to maintain nurses at the highest level of functioning. The unit is led by a clinical manager and lead charge nurse. Additionally, the unit works in collaboration with a case manager, social worker, physical therapist, dietitian, and pharmacist. This multidisciplinary team works in conjunction with the physicians, nurses, and patient care technicians to provide quality patient care.
