Clinical Nurse Manager II Anaesthetics and Recovery - UPMC Aut Even

Location: Aut Even Hospital
Job type: Permanent

Overview of role:

The CNM2 for Anaesthetics and Recovery will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the service, leading the team, and providing direction to both nursing and support staff to support patient care in the Theatre Department. The role involves collaboration with the Theatre Manager and other inter-professional team members to ensure the delivery of safe and effective peri-operative nursing care.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Implement UPMC Aut Even policies and legislative requirements regarding storage and administration of medicines.
  • Ensure emergency equipment is standardized, checked, and aligned with national guidelines.
  • Manage junior staff directly and ensure effective staff development in line with hospital policy.
  • Plan and organize theatre and outpatient schedules in liaison with relevant care teams and management.
  • Monitor theatre operating times and patient throughput, and identify improvements to maximize efficiency.
  • Audit recovery times and use data to drive improvements in collaboration with the theatre manager.
  • Maintain high standards of record keeping, including patient notes and theatre registers.
  • Support theatre stock control and coordinate purchasing based on theatre needs.
  • Lead and support the anaesthetic and recovery team.
  • Develop induction programs with the Theatre Manager to ensure staff are fit for their roles.
  • Participate in future service development initiatives.
  • Recruit, select, and orient new staff in accordance with staffing needs and budgets.
  • Motivate, coach, and provide performance feedback to team members.
  • Identify resource needs to meet patient safety and care standards, alerting management if resources are inadequate.
  • Manage staff performance, sickness, and grievances following hospital policies, with support from HR and occupational health.
  • Contribute actively to quality and patient safety initiatives, developing KPIs and ensuring compliance with JCI standards.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Registered General Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
  • At least 3 years post-registration experience (desirable).
  • Management experience in a similar setting (desirable but not essential).
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Current ACLS and PEARS certification or working towards it.
  • Completed or willing to undertake a management course.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience in change management.
