Clinical Nurse Manager II FTC - Surgical Day Care

Location: Aut Even Hospital
Job type: Fixed Term

Overview of role:

UPMC Aut Even Hospital is recruiting a Clinical Nurse Manager II Surgical Day Care on an 11-month fixed term contract. The post of CNM II has a pivotal role in service planning, coordinating, and managing activity and resources within the clinical area. The CNM II will coordinate and lead in the implementation and provision of quality care.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Professional / Clinical
    • Manage patient care to ensure the highest professional standards using an evidence-based, care planning approach.
    • Provide a high level of professional and clinical leadership.
    • Be responsible for the coordination, assessment, planning, delivery, and review of service user care by all staff in the designated area.
    • Provide safe, comprehensive nursing care to service users within the guidelines laid out by NMBI (Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland).
    • Participate in teams/meetings/committees as appropriate, communicating and working in cooperation with other team members.
    • Facilitate coordination, cooperation, and liaison across healthcare teams.
    • Collaborate with service users, family, carers, and other staff in treatment/care.
    • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care by personal involvement and supervising the activities of other qualified nurses.
    • Ensure that the care delivered by the team is based on standards formulated on evidence-based practice and agreed through hospital policy.
    • Regularly evaluate and monitor patient care using the hospital's quality systems.
    • Develop and promote good relationships with patients, families, and carers.
    • Work as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team promoting good teamwork and excellent patient care.
    • Evaluate and further develop the philosophy, objectives, and goals of the department.
    • Ensure that all staff are familiar with the use and care of all equipment, maintaining it in good working condition.
    • Ensure strict confidentiality of information regarding patients/residents.
  2. Managerial Responsibilities
    • Provide necessary supervision, coordination, and deployment of nursing and support staff.
    • Manage communication at ward and departmental level and facilitate team building.
    • Provide staff leadership and motivation conducive to good working relations and performance.
    • Manage resources efficiently and effectively.
    • Lead on practice development within the clinical area.
    • Lead and implement change.
    • Promote, facilitate, and participate in the development of nursing policies and procedures.
    • Contribute to the formulation, development, and implementation of policies at area and hospital level.
    • Participate in the Nursing Management structure supporting the Assistant Director of Clinical Services Theatres.
    • Maintain all necessary clinical and administrative records and reporting arrangements.
  3. On-call Rota
    The post holder will be expected to take part in the on-call manager’s rota.

Staff Development and Education

  1. Ensure that care delivered to patients/clients is a result of individual assessment of care needs.
  2. Ensure that the staff development and induction programme for trained and untrained staff is in place.
  3. Ensure that each member of staff has a personal development plan.
  4. Facilitate the development of an environment conducive to promoting reflective practice.

Clinical and Professional Leadership / Evidence Based Practice

  1. Participate and support in promoting evidence-based nursing practice.
  2. Participate in developing standards of care utilizing research findings.
  3. Promote and improve the quality and standards of care through participating in the quality and patient safety programme.

Clinical Governance

  1. Participate in innovation and change in patient care delivery.
  2. Participate in the setting of professional standards and measure the effectiveness of care.
  3. Lead and maintain the principles of clinical governance including quality, risk, and health & safety.
  4. Accurately record and report incidents, near misses, and complaints according to Hospital Policy.
  5. Participate in the development of policies to support compliance with research best practice.

Accreditation

  1. Familiarise with policies, procedures, and guidelines related to clinical care.
  2. Assist in the review of policies under the direction of the department manager.

Lean

  1. Lead, facilitate, and participate in lean projects.
  2. Support and participate in problem-solving and continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Be registered in the General Division of the live Register of Nurses kept by NMBI.
  • Have completed a Management Course or commit to undertake the same.
  • Be a minimum of 5 years qualified with previous experience within a Medical environment.
  • Previous management experience is essential.
  • Have experience in change management.
  • Display evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of HR policies and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft packages is essential.
  • Will play an active role in the continuous improvement programme using lean tools and methodology.
  • Possess excellent communication skills.
  • Effective communication with medical staff, other members of the multi-disciplinary team, and with patients and relatives.
  • Implement change in accordance with new developments in nursing.
  • Work as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team promoting good teamwork and excellent patient care.
  • Possess well-developed leadership, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
