Job summary

BJC HealthCare invites experienced registered nurses to join the Integrated Spine Unit, a newly developed inpatient specialty unit integrating neurologic and orthopedic spine care. The role focuses on direct patient care, coordinating plans with an interprofessional team and educating families for post-discharge care.

You will work with spine surgeons and multidisciplinary teams, contributing to best practices and a patient-centered culture while advancing leadership within a collaborative

Qualifications

• Nursing Diploma or Associate's degree required.
• RN licensure required.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
• Promotes patient and family centered care and educates on illness/injury management and post-treatment home care.
• Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance; engages in professional development.
• Develops, implements, and documents individual care plans with defined goals in collaboration with the interprofessional team and patient/family.
• Assesses physical, psychosocial, emotional needs and considers patient preferences, values, and cultural needs.
• A safety-sensitive position requiring alertness and safe work practices.

This unique model allows for standardized, high-quality care regardless of surgeon specialty while providing nurses with the opportunity to develop expertise across both orthopedic and neurologic disciplines.

Overview

Role Purpose: Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.

Responsibilities

• Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post treatment home care needs and medication administration.
• Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development.
• Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family or caregiver in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care. Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
• Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.
• BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
