The Clinical Nurse Informaticist role integrates clinical nursing experience with health information technology expertise to support and optimize the use of various hospital EMR systems, including Epic, Cerner, Meditech, Medhost, and Allscripts (comprehensive experience across all platforms is not required). This position collaborates closely with physician advisors to troubleshoot EMR-related issues, streamline clinical workflows, develop training tools for EMR access, and implement process improvements that enhance physician advisor operational efficiency.
Requirements
WORK EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS: List preferred/required work experience, education, and certifications.
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) required
- Master’s degree in Nursing, healthcare Informatics or a related field is required
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical informatics experience
Duties and Responsibilities: List essential duties and responsibilities.
EMR Support & Troubleshooting: Provide expert support for clinical staff and physician advisors, assist physician advisors and clinical team with technical issues, Ensure timely resolution of system related issues, Work closely with IT internal and client teams to report and escalate critical system issues and follow through until resolution.
Workflow Optimization & Process Improvement: Develop, implement, and optimize EMR workflows to streamline clinical processes and enhance user experience, Work collaboratively with clinical staff to identify workflow inefficiencies and propose process improvements within EMR systems, Assist in creating standardized best practices to ensure seamless integration across various EMR platforms.
Collaboration & Training: Partner with physician advisors, clinical teams, and IT specialists to identify and address clinical needs and technology challenges within the EMR systems, Design and deliver training sessions for physicians and clinical staff on EMR usage, Create user guides, FAQs, and other training materials
Data Analysis & Reporting: Collect and analyze EMR data to identify trends, areas for improvement, and actionable insights to enhance clinical workflows, Work with leadership to track and measure key performance indicators related to EMR utilization and clinical workflow efficiency.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation: Stay up to date with the latest trends, technologies and best practices in healthcare informatics and EMR systems, Identify opportunities for innovation and propose solutions to enhance overall efficiency and effectiveness of clinical informatics.
Compliance & Documentation: Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including HIPAA, when implementing EMR solutions, Maintain thorough documentation related to system changes, workflows, and processes in alignment with company standards and best practices.
Liaison to IT: Work with internal IT resources to coordinate support for enhancements to internal PA systems, document requirements, coordinate testing and support PA training.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Abilities may be accessed through written, verbal, and other evaluation methods.
- Experience working with multiple EMR systems, not all required (Epic, Cerner, Meditech, Medhost, Allscripts).
- Strong Background in clinical workflows, healthcare IT systems and process optimization.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with clinicians, IT teams, and leadership.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues in complex EMR environments.
- Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations, standards, and compliance (e.g., HIPAA).
- A deep understanding of clinical workflows and how they relate to EMR functionality.
- Ability to adapt to a fast paced, dynamic environment with changing priorities.
- Passion for continuous learning and staying up to date with the latest trends in health informatics.
