Job summary

Howard University Hospital is seeking a Clinical Nurse II (RN) to provide direct patient care and develop clinical judgment in a busy, team-based setting. The role emphasizes safety, evidence-based practice, and ongoing mentorship within a Just Culture environment.

The CN II will collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams, document outcomes in the EMR, and participate in quality improvement initiatives. A DC RN license and BLS/ACLS are required, with a BSN preferred.

Qualifications

• Active RN license in DC is required.
• BSN preferred; BSN not mandatory for all applicants.
• Minimum of 1 year of clinical nursing experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care with assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
• Educate patients and families to support recovery and care continuity.
• Accurately document care and outcomes in the EMR.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to meet goals.
• Participate in unit quality improvement and shared governance.
• Follow infection prevention, medication administration, and safety protocols.
• Maintain professional development through education and mentorship.
• May serve as Charge Nurse after orientation and approval.
