The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania is looking for an experienced RN to join our inpatient Psych Unit at the Cedar location!

The inpatient, acute, psychiatric units at HUP Cedar Avenue provide short-term psychiatric management for admitted patients experiencing an acute mental disorder or an exacerbation of a chronic psychiatric disorder, with or without a secondary addiction diagnosis. The units, 2 North-East and 2 South-East, each have 16 beds and are locked, admitting adults on voluntary or involuntary commitment. The department aims to provide treatment in the least restrictive setting, focusing on restoring patients to their optimal community functioning.

Summary:
  1. The Clinical Nurse 2 practices as a full partner on the healthcare team, demonstrating safe practice within the professional practice model.
  2. The nurse possesses the knowledge, skills, and attitude to meet standards for competent professional nursing practice.
  3. The nurse exhibits UPHS organizational behavioral competencies aligned with its mission.
  4. The nurse independently provides patient care across age ranges, applying the nursing process and accepting accountability.
  5. The nurse demonstrates competencies in CQI, Evidence-Based Practice, Leadership, Person and Family Centered Care, Professionalism, Safety, Technology/Informatics, and Teamwork.
  6. The nurse collaborates with the interprofessional team to coordinate care, focusing on individualized, age-appropriate considerations.
  7. The nurse seeks and provides feedback to improve clinical practice, aligning with organizational goals and standards.
Responsibilities:
  • Utilize data and QI methods to enhance care safety, timeliness, efficiency, effectiveness, and equity.
  • Evaluate and incorporate current evidence with clinical expertise and patient preferences for optimal care.
  • Engage in evidence-based problem solving and decision-making to promote effective care delivery systems.
  • Recognize patients as full partners in care, respecting their preferences and needs.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the nursing profession through lifelong learning and adherence to ethical standards.
  • Minimize risks through effective systems and individual performance.
  • Use appropriate information and technology to communicate, manage knowledge, and support decision-making.
  • Engage in teamwork to ensure safe, quality outcomes within and across teams.
Credentials:
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS/CPR) as per AHA standards.
  • Registered Nurse license in PA.
Education or Experience:
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
  • At least 15 months of relevant professional nursing experience and completion of the Nurse Residency Program, if applicable.
