The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania is looking for an experienced RN to join our team on the inpatient Psych Unit at the Cedar location!

The inpatient, acute, psychiatric units at HUP Cedar Avenue provide short-term psychiatric management for admitted patients experiencing an acute mental disorder or an exacerbation of a chronic psychiatric disorder, with or without a secondary addiction diagnosis. 2 North-East and 2 South-East are each locked, 16-bed acute care service units admitting adults on voluntary or involuntary commitment. The department is committed to providing treatment in the least restrictive setting possible, aiming to restore patients to their optimal functioning in the community.

Summary:

  • The Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague is an RN practicing as a full partner on the healthcare team, demonstrating safe practice within the professional practice model.
  • Possesses the knowledge, skills, and attitude to meet standards for competent professional nursing practice as specified in the Clinical Nurse 2 position description addendum.
  • Exhibits UPHS organizational behavioral competencies reflecting its mission, embedded in professional practice domains.
  • Provides patient care through the nursing process, accountable for the care of assigned patients of all ages.
  • Demonstrates competencies in CQI, Evidence-Based Practice, Research, Leadership, Person and Family Centered Care, Professionalism, Safety, Technology/Informatics, and Teamwork.
  • Works closely with the interprofessional team to coordinate care, focusing on individualized patient needs based on various considerations.
  • Seeks feedback and provides feedback to improve clinical practice, demonstrating how nursing impacts organizational goals and complies with regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Utilizes data and QI methods to improve care quality and safety.
  • Evaluates and integrates current evidence with clinical expertise and patient preferences.
  • Engages in evidence-based problem solving and decision making to promote effective care delivery.
  • Provides person and family-centered care respecting patient preferences and needs.
  • Demonstrates professionalism through lifelong learning, ethical practice, and community engagement.
  • Minimizes harm through effective safety practices.
  • Uses technology to communicate and support clinical decision-making.
  • Participates in teamwork to ensure safe, quality patient outcomes.

Credentials:

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS/CPR) as per AHA standards.
  • Registered Nurse license in PA.

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school.
  • At least 15 months of relevant professional nursing experience and completion of Nurse Residency Program, if applicable.
