Unit Description

Our 32-bed unit cares for patients requiring complex cardiac surgeries and procedures, including CABG, valve repair/replacement, aortic aneurysm repairs, heart and lung transplants, and ventricular assist devices. We utilize advanced critical care technologies such as Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy, Intra-Aortic Balloon Counterpulsation, ECMO, ventilator management, and multiple types of VADs.

Position Summary

The Clinical Nurse 2 practices as a full partner on the healthcare team, demonstrating safe practice within organizational standards. They provide patient care independently, applying the nursing process, and are accountable for their patients, who may range from infants to the elderly. They work within various competency domains, including Quality Improvement, Evidence-Based Practice, Leadership, Person and Family Centered Care, Professionalism, Safety, Technology/Informatics, and Teamwork. They collaborate with interprofessional teams to coordinate care and focus on individualized care considering physical, psychosocial, cultural, educational, safety, and age factors.

  • Utilize data and quality improvement methods to ensure safe, timely, efficient, effective, and equitable care.
  • Evaluate and integrate current evidence with clinical expertise and patient preferences for optimal healthcare delivery.
  • Engage in collaborative problem-solving and decision-making to promote system improvements.
  • Recognize patients as full partners in care, respecting their values and preferences.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the nursing profession through lifelong learning, adherence to ethical standards, and community involvement.
  • Minimize risks through effective systems and individual performance.
  • Use appropriate information and technology for communication, knowledge management, error mitigation, and decision support.
  • Engage effectively with teams to ensure safe, quality patient outcomes.
Credentials
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Registered Nurse license in Pennsylvania required.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor of Arts or Science (required), preferably BSN from an accredited institution.
  • At least 15 months of relevant professional nursing experience, with completion of Nurse Residency Program if applicable.
