Description

The physician is responsible for the care of patients in the hospital and clinics, as well as some advocacy and educational initiatives as determined by the Division Chief and/or the Center leadership.

Qualifications

Minimum Education
Medical Doctor (M.D.) from an accredited medical school (Required)

Minimum Work Experience

Required Skills/Knowledge

Knowledge of current principles, methods, and procedures for medical evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment in the area of expertise.
Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for medical care.
Ability to evaluate patient problems independently and develop a care plan.
Ability to incorporate ethical concepts into patient care and discuss them with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
Ability to supervise, advise, and train clinical professionals and students.
Commitment to maintaining quality, safety, and infection control standards.
Stay current with developments in the subspecialty through Continuing Medical Education.

Required Licenses and Certifications

Fully licensed and credentialed attending staff physician at Children's National Medical Center (Required).
Board certified or eligible for certification in primary specialty (Required).
Board certification in secondary specialty (Preferred).

  • Provide clinical services ethically, professionally, and timely, dedicating 90% effort to clinical activities and 10% to non-clinical activities.
  • Oversee the medical care team and manage patient care for a specific population; enhance continuity, customer service, and collaboration with community providers.
  • Participate in family-centered care, communicate professionally and compassionately, and refer patients appropriately.
  • Use chain of command and escalation policies appropriately.
  • Respond promptly and respectfully to team and external providers, clearly communicate expectations, and encourage questions from trainees.

Commitment to Advocacy

  • Engage in CNMC's advocacy efforts.
  • Contribute to public policies promoting pediatric health and well-being.
  • Educate patients and families on treatment, prevention, and care strategies.
  • Participate in health promotion and education programs.

Commitment to Education

  • Participate in medical education programs and hospital/university-wide initiatives.
  • Contribute to regional and national educational efforts.
  • Provide timely feedback and ensure proper orientation for trainees.
  • Supervise and train clinical staff and students effectively.

Commitment to Quality & Compliance

  • Follow bylaws, policies, procedures, and quality improvement standards.
  • Complete clinical documentation accurately and promptly, including charges.
  • Identify service issues, recommend improvements, and participate in policy development.
  • Review protocols, evaluate care against standards, and participate in peer evaluation and error reporting.
