Job summary

HealthLinc in South Bend, IN is seeking a Medical Assistant to prepare patients for examinations, administer vaccines, and support clinical and administrative tasks in a busy health center.

You will collaborate with the Medical Assistant staff, update patient charts, handle calls, assist with tests and labs, and help maintain inventory and room readiness while following HealthLinc policies and PCMH principles.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of a program for Medical Assistants.
  • Graduate of an accredited 2-year Medical Assistant associates degree program (not required but highly preferred).
  • Ability to pass MA Certification/Registration exam within the first six months of employment.
  • Current CPR certification.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for examination, greeting and obtaining chief complaint.
  • Assists with laboratory requisitions and lab pickup.
  • Administers immunizations and other injections under direction of a medical provider.
  • Updates and maintains patient charts.
  • Answers telephone calls and callbacks as instructed by registered nurse or a medical provider.
  • Performs simple medical procedures such as earwax removal.
  • Identifies unsafe patient environment and discusses with provider.
  • Assists with a wide range of patient care procedures and tests; collects, labels, and processes specimens as required.
  • Performs routine tests (BS, UA, pregnancy, Strep, blood draws, TB tests) as ordered.
  • Cleans and sterilizes equipment/instruments.
  • Maintains room cleaning and restocks examination rooms.
  • Conducts inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Maintains vaccine fridge temperature controls.
  • Calls patients regarding test results.
  • Draws up medications for immediate verification by provider.
  • Rotates as Seated MA handling phones and faxes.
  • Maintains logs and records for clinical area.
  • May request medical records from other providers.
  • Occasionally supervises/trains students or temporary staff.
  • Relieves other MAs as needed.
  • Supports PCMH quality improvement initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
