The Department of OBGYN seeks a dynamic individual who is passionate about maternal/fetal nursing, energized by change, highly motivated, and seeking an opportunity to maintain direct clinical care delivery. The individual will oversee daily clinical operations for the Penn Medicine Washington Square Maternal Fetal Medicine practice, while also providing direct support for nursing and advanced practice providers. The position is structured to be 40% administrative and 60% clinical. As an administrator, the Clinical Manager will work collaboratively with staff and leadership to ensure compliance with regulatory, infection control, quality and safety standards while optimizing employee engagement, patient satisfaction, scope of clinical practice and the highest quality of care delivery. As a direct‑care RN, the Clinical Manager will engage in complex care coordination including telephone triage, patient portal management, result review and follow‑up, specialty program coordination, treatment planning, education, appointment scheduling, and administrative tasks associated with care coordination and management. The incumbent will be trained to support the antenatal testing unit which provides non‑stress tests, biophysical profiles, and related diagnostic testing. A limited hybrid work schedule will be supported when operationally feasible.

Summary
  • The Clinical Manager is responsible for consistent and comprehensive patient care delivery in the ambulatory practice setting, maintaining the highest level of patient/customer satisfaction, education, and patient confidentiality, and continually assessing the clinical care team to ensure quality, compliance with governmental agencies and patient access. Typical scope for this role includes:
  • 10+ staff directly and indirectly managed
  • 15,000+ budgeted annual visits
  • Complexity factors such as multiple practice locations, high practice/facility square footage, service line oversight, coordination of inpatient services, coordination of care across departments/entities, academic involvement (research initiatives, resident program), special clinical programs, multiple clinical specialties, complex regulatory requirements, and management of external partnerships/collaborations

  • Oversees clinical operations in the practice: budgeting/billing practices (where applicable), manages and oversees schedules, pay practices, time‑card review and approval, clinical project management, strategic and operational planning, quality safety and continuous improvement initiatives, and Penn Safety Net Management.
  • Regulatory compliance (TJC, CMS, DOH, OSHA).
  • Maintains a focus on quality and safety priorities, including a quality improvement framework (FOCUS PDSA), High Reliable Organization principles, and safety event follow‑up.
  • Patient Care: Provides oversight to the team for seamless delivery of high‑quality care and service using effective processes and tools.
  • Communication: Fosters an environment of proactive communication and problem‑solving, establishing communication expectations that enable high performance.
  • Change Management: Provides support to entity and practice leadership to develop change management strategies for major organizational and practice activities, implements strategies, plans communication, ensures follow‑up of major clinical/practice issues, and manages routine and crisis communications.
