Job summary

Kaiser Permanente is seeking a capable Laboratory Scientist to perform a range of laboratory procedures, quality control and QA measures. The role involves testing patient specimens, data correlation, and timely reporting to support quality patient care.

The candidate will follow established Laboratory Procedures, handle specimen processing, and assist in developing new procedures and instrumentation. Strong attention to accuracy, documentation, and safety is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and proper documentation required.
• ASCP or equivalent certification preferred.
• Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Follows lab procedures for specimen handling and processing.
• Performs moderate to high complexity tests per Laboratory Procedures Manual.
• Maintains records of patient test results and reports findings promptly.
• Adheres to quality control and quality assurance procedures with documentation.
• Operates and troubleshoots laboratory instruments and performs preventive maintenance.
• Ensures timely and accurate test results; escalates unusual findings to supervisor.
• Enters and retrieves data using the laboratory computer system.
• Assists in evaluating and developing new procedures and instrumentation.
• Performs phlebotomy, accessioning, and specimen processing as needed.
• Maintains supply levels and supports orientation of new staff.
• Follows lab safety and infection control policies; adheres to dress code.
• Applies professional judgment to analytical decisions and protects patient confidentiality.
• Contributes to internal QA monitors and participates in continuing education.
