Job summary

Northwell Health, a large not-for-profit health system, is seeking a Medical Technologist for the Core Lab at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. You will perform routine and complex lab tests, ensure quality control, review and release results, and document calibrations and maintenance.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s in Medical Technology, NYS Medical Technologist License, and, preferably, one year of clinical lab experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or related sciences.
• One year of clinical laboratory experience preferred; new grads considered.
• License required: NYS Medical Technologist License.

Responsibilities

• Performs all tests in assigned lab sections per approved policies.
• Reviews and releases test results; identifies issues and notifies supervisor.
• Reports STATS or critical results to caregivers per procedures.
• Documents QC failures and follows corrective actions.
• Maintains documentation of calibrations and maintenance.
• Verifies dates on reagents/test kits and expiration status.
• Follows PPE, CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA and safety guidelines.
• Aware of safety manual location and equipment.
• Assists with training for department staff.
• Maintains clinical competency by reading journals and attending trainings.

• Demonstrates regular attendance and performs other duties as required.
