Job summary

Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, NY is seeking a qualified Clinical Laboratory Technologist to perform routine and emergency tests in the Rapid Response Lab.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in a physical science and NYS licensure (provisional permit possible within 3 months). You will work an evening shift and may supervise and train staff. This position emphasizes quality control, data review, and accurate reporting according to lab procedures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a physical science; medical technology preferred.
• New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist license or limited permit required. Applicants must obtain a provisional permit within the probationary period of three months.
• Laboratory information systems experience and automated equipment knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and emergency tests on body fluids using automated and manual equipment.
• Monitor specimens to ensure work is completed.
• Review data prior to release and report abnormal values.
• Maintain QC data and resolve QC failures per procedures.
• Prepare reagents, inventory and maintain equipment logs.
• Assist with LIS entries and answer calls as needed.
• May supervise other staff and train new employees.
• Maintain clean work area per Infection Control guidelines.

Job description

City/State: Bronx, New York. Grant Funded: No. Department: Path - Rapid Response Lab. Einstein Bargaining Unit: 1199. Work Shift: Evening (12:00‑8:00pm). Work Days: Alternate weekends. Scheduled Hours: 12pm–8pm (7hours daily). Hourly Rate: $54.41.

Essential Functions

• Perform routine and emergency tests on blood, serum, spinal fluid and other body fluids using automated and manual equipment, depending on procedure.
• Monitor specimens to ensure work is completed.
• Review data prior to release.
• Report all panic, abnormal, etc. values.
• Maintain quality control data on tests performed, resolve QC failures and document actions as stipulated by laboratory procedures.
• Prepare reagents, take inventory and advise supervisor as required.
• Maintain all records of work performed and keep maintenance logs of equipment.
• Assist with answering the telephone and perform order entry in the LIS system, as necessary.
• May have individual responsibility for the work of a laboratory unit and may provide leadership for technicians.
• Assist with the training of new employees.
• Maintain clean work area in accordance with Infection Control guidelines.
• Perform other laboratory related tasks under the direction of a supervisor as needed.

Qualifications

• Position requires at least a Bachelor’s degree in a physical science; medical technology preferred.
• New York State Department of Education Clinical Laboratory Technologist License or a limited permit are required. Applicants must obtain a provisional permit within the probationary period of three months for continued employment. Prior to obtaining the provisional permit, associates may not release any patient reports.
• Laboratory and hospital information system computers, variety of automated equipment and other laboratory equipment is required.
