Job summary

Children's Hospital Los Angeles is seeking a Clinical Lab Technician III to support patient and specimen preparation, perform QC, and manage reagents in a licensed clinical laboratory. The role requires experience in phlebotomy, strong medical terminology knowledge, and compliance with CLIA and state regulations.

You will work under supervision and collaborate with CLS/MLT staff to ensure accurate testing. Ideal candidates have 3+ years in a large lab and phlebotomy experience; CPT certification

• CPT Certification is required when phlebotomy duties are performed

Job description

Schedule:

Per diem position with a variable schedule. Availability for shifts Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and rotating Saturdays from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM required.

• This position requires travel to all CHLA locations as needed.

Purpose Statement/Position Summary:

The Clinical Lab Technician III, under direct supervision of unlicensed or licensed CLS, MLT, or section manager, functions as an unlicensed or licensed staff member in a licensed clinical laboratory performing duties approved by California business code 1269, CLIA, and other regulatory agencies. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to, patient preparation, specimen preparation, client service activities, preparation and management of reagents and supplies, and performing procedures and QC functions approved by regulatory agencies. Performs all job duties with sensitivity and attention to the age and developmental issues of the patient population(s) being served. May be asked to take direction from a Lead or Specialist level position.

Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience Required:

• 3+ years of experience in a large laboratory or academic institution.
• 3+ years of experience in technical phlebotomy.
• Experience in medical terminology sufficient to understand and discuss technical aspects of pathology and laboratory medicine.

Preferred:

• Processing experience preferred.

Education/Licensure/Certification Required:

• High school graduate or equivalent required
• Valid California Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) Certificate verifiable by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) when duties include phlebotomy.

Preferred:

• AA/BS degree preferred.
