Job summary

AHMC HealthCare in California is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Scientist to perform complex tests across multiple departments, ensure quality control, and support daily operations as the lead CLS.

You will maintain instruments, troubleshoot issues, participate in CAP surveys, and collaborate with staff to provide accurate results and timely reports. This full-time on-site role requires a CA CLS license and a strong commitment to safety and patient care.

Qualifications

  • B.S. or B.A. in Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science or equivalent.
  • Licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientist in California.
  • 5–7 years of CLS experience in an acute-care facility.
  • Proficiency across all laboratory departments and QC, troubleshooting, and equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Performs laboratory test procedures in one or more sections according to established protocols and procedures.
  • Evaluates specimens for acceptability and investigates problems with unacceptable specimens.
  • Accurately performs tests, verifies results, and reports them in a timely manner, including handling for outlying or critical values.
  • Documents results, special handling, and any deviations from expected outcomes.
  • Maintains and calibrates instruments and equipment, following maintenance charts and documenting activities.
  • Troubleshoots instruments, reagents, and patient specimens and documents troubleshooting steps.
  • Participates in CAP survey inspections and submits survey materials as required.
  • Performs phlebotomy when needed and reports safety hazards.
  • Adheres to universal precautions and safety policies.

Overview

Clinical Laboratory Scientist performs complex laboratory tests on blood, bodily fluids and tissue samples to help diagnose and treat diseases. Responsible for analysis, quality control, inventory, instrument maintenance, and acts as the lead CLS for daily operations.

Responsibilities
  • Performs laboratory test procedures in one or more sections according to established protocols and procedures.
  • Evaluates specimens for acceptability and investigates any problems with unacceptable specimens.
  • Accurately performs tests, verifies results, and reports them in a timely manner, including special handling for outlying or critical values.
  • Documents results, special handling, and any deviations from expected outcomes.
  • Manages quality control procedures: performs QC tests, records outcomes, and notifies supervisors of discrepant results.
  • Maintains and calibrates instruments and equipment, following scheduled maintenance charts and documenting all activities.
  • Troubleshoots instruments, reagents, and patient specimens, follows established guidelines, and documents troubleshooting steps.
  • Participates in CAP survey inspections and submits survey materials as required.
  • Performs phlebotomy (venipunctures, finger sticks, heel sticks) when needed and reports any safety hazards.
  • Adheres to universal precautions, safety policies, and use of protective barrier equipment.
  • Attends required safety training programs and demonstrates knowledge of general and job‑specific hazards.
  • Maintains a clean work area and equipment, demonstrates proper body mechanics, and presents a neat appearance.
  • Communicates effectively, provides customer service, and supports teamwork within and across departments.
  • Responds to messages promptly and participates in ongoing quality assurance projects.
Qualifications
  • B.S. or B.A. in Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5–7 years’ experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in a licensed, accredited acute‑care facility.
  • Current Clinical Laboratory Scientist license from the State of California Department of Health Services.
  • Strong analytical, communication, customer service, and independent judgment skills.
  • Proficiency in all laboratory departments and competency in quality control, troubleshooting, and equipment maintenance.
