Job Description
Summary: Responsible for the direct oversight of daily operations and testing of the assigned section, including staffing, procedures, policies, and quality improvement. Collaborates with other section leaders to meet departmental goals.
About CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital - Westover Hills (CSRH-WH): A 150-bed hospital serving the fastest-growing area of San Antonio, offering specialized care including orthopedic and surgical services, ICU, women’s services, neonatal nursery, cardiovascular care, vascular lab, sleep center, emergency services, weight loss institute, wound care, rehabilitation, outpatient imaging, and medical plazas.
Responsibilities
- Meet expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
- Organize, plan, direct, evaluate, and oversee all laboratory operations within the designated section, including outreach services, computer operations, pre and post-analytic testing, safety, and inventory management.
- Provide leadership and administrative support to laboratory staff.
- Ensure standards of care align with CHRISTUS Health Mission and regulatory requirements.
- Work with hospital administration to achieve departmental goals.
- Promote staff development and process improvements to maintain quality, cost-effectiveness, and satisfaction.
- Perform other responsibilities as mutually agreed to support the effective functioning of the department.
Education/Skills
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a relevant science or medical technology field from an accredited institution or equivalent training per CLIA regulation 42CFR493.1489.
OR
- Education evaluated as equivalent to a US Bachelor’s degree by an acceptable credentialing agency.
OR
- Meet the educational requirements of a Medical Laboratory Technician II (MLT-II).
Experience
- 3 years of full-time laboratory experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) in moderate/high complexity testing in the specific section.
- Preferred: 5 years of experience in the same role.
Licenses & Certifications
- Certification for MT, MLS, CLS, or MLT from ASCP, AMT, AAB, or HEW/HHS.
- Certification must be current if expiration date exists.
- State licensure required in Louisiana.
Work Schedule
8 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday.
