Job summary

Contra Costa County Health Services Department is seeking an experienced Clinical Laboratory Scientist II to perform a broad range of laboratory procedures at Martinez or nearby health centers.

Responsibilities include operating diverse lab equipment, ensuring quality control, and reporting results to the medical team. Licensure in California and one year of licensed lab experience are required, with background/fingerprinting as needed.

Qualifications

• License: California CLS license required.
• Experience: one year of full-time licensed clinical laboratory work.
• Background: background check/physical exam may be required.

Responsibilities

• Performs clinical lab procedures in chemistry, microbiology, hematology, immunohematology, urinalysis and phlebotomy.
• Operates manual and automated, computer-controlled equipment.
• Maintains quality control statistical data.
• Draws blood for laboratory testing and processes specimens.
• Performs laboratory tests in rotation across areas of the lab.
• Reports test results verbally and in writing to medical staff.
• Stains and interprets blood smears and other specimens.
• Types and crossmatches blood for transfusion.
• Prepares laboratory reagents and monitors supply inventories.
• Maintains laboratory logs and records.
